The Sponsored Programs Approval
Form (SPAF) is available in iPDF format. This format is compatible
with both PC and Macintosh computers. Please read the instructions carefully
before entering data and printing the form.
OSP is no longer supporting
the previously available versions of the SPAF, including the Word 97,
Word 7, and Word for Macintosh versions. The use of the iPDF format requires
the user to have the software specified in the instructions. OSP strongly
encourages all users to acquire the necessary software as many funding
agencies require or will require use of this software for application
submissions.
Your comments about the SPAF
are EXTREMELY important to us. After using the SPAF, please send in your
comments via either e-mail to your OSP Research Analyst or telephone (727-2503).
With your feedback we will further improve the SPAF so that we can better
serve the Emory campus community.
*Instructions for Using and Saving the SPAF
The SPAF is available in
iPDF format. Please note that if you are
using Acrobat Reader you will be able to fill-in and print the forms,
but you will NOT be able to save the completed form or perform other types
of functions. Acrobat Reader can be downloaded free from the Adobe website (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html). To save the forms,
you must be using Adobe Acrobat.
*Completing the Form
To begin, place your cursor
over the field in which you wish to begin typing and click in the field.
When over an interactive field, the cursor changes from a hand to the
text indicator icon.
You may hit the TAB key to
move to the next field or you may place the cursor over the field to which
you wish to move and click in that field. Do not use the ENTER key. Hitting the ENTER key will move the data you just input out of the viewing/printing
range of the field and it will not be displayed.
To place a checkmark in one
of the option boxes, move the cursor over the box until it becomes a hand
with only the index finger extended and click in the box. A checkmark
will be automatically added to the box.
In the Budget Data section
of page 2 of the SPAF, enter the direct and F&A costs for both the
Initial Period and Entire Project Period. The computer will add the amounts
and enter the total in the appropriate space. Figures in the University
Commitment section will also be totaled by the computer.
Please be sure to enter information
onto the SPAF as completely as possible. OSP requires this information
to properly process your proposal.
*Saving the Form
After you have completed entering
data onto the form, you may save the form if you are using Adobe Acrobat
4.0 or a combination of Adobe Acrobat 3.x and the Acrobat Forms Author
Plug-in 3.5. If you are using Acrobat Reader 4.0 or Acrobat Reader 3.x
and Acrobat Forms Fill-in Plug-in, you will be able to print the forms,
but not save them.
To save the form, go to FILE, then select Save As. Assign a directory
and name to the file. The extension for the file should be .pdf.
